A Little Luck Gives Bonner Baseball a Win over Haverford School
It took 8 innings to finish this drama filled game, but Bonner was able to finally defeat the Haverford School 8-7. Bonner held a 7-4 lead heading in to the bottom of the 7th, but the Fords were able to put two men on base, and then tie the game up on a 3-run home run. The game went to extra innings, where the drama continued. Matt Mullen led off the 8th with a double. The next two batters recorded outs. With two outs and two strikes, Alex Libretore struck out, which would have ended the top half of the inning. The only problem was the Haverford School's catcher dropped the ball. Libretore ran to first, and the ball hit him in the back. This allowed Mullen to score and give Bonner an 8-7 lead. The Fords argued he was out of the base path, but to no avail. The Friars closed it out in the bottom of the 8th, and defeated Haverford School, the fourteenth ranked team in the state, 8-7. Josh Van Horn earned the win on the mound, while Haverford's Bonner, who was led by Steve Markus's 2 home runs, earn their second win of the year. Bonner will open up Catholic League play when they take on Archbishop Ryan. The first of the two games will be played on Tuesday, April 6th, at Bonner. First pitch is scheduled for 3:45.
